————————————————————————-

Truckee has two large grocery stores, as well as CVS, Rite-Aid, and pretty much any other retail business you might need. Safeway is on Donner Pass Road in the center of town. It is probably the best stocked Safeway we’ve ever seen. We also recommend driving an extra 1⁄2 mile to Save Mart (on 89 just on the other side of I-80). Good seafood is hard to come by, though. Try Morgan’s Lobster Shack & Fish Market in old town Truckee on W. River Street, or load up your cooler at home before your trip.

Don’t miss a shopping walk through Old-Town Truckee with its numerous nice boutiques and souvenir shops. I dislike the parking meters and general parking difficulty there, but it’s worth the effort. If you are hungry and are ready for a delicious late breakfast or early lunch, squeeze in at the “Squeeze-in,” about viz-a-viz of the railroad station (not sure if it survived Covid-19).
