TV and Audio System

General Information:
--- We have a 39" TV. PRIMARY option is with guests’ own programming (via ROKU device, on TV Input 5).
--- As SECONDARY option we provide service by DirecTV (via satellite; basic local SF Bay Area HD-TV programming).
— Our preferred option is to simply slave from our laptop, via HDMI cable to Input 5.
--- There are various remotes ("TV,"  "DirecTV [TV DSS]" for satellite receiver, and "DVD"), as well as a remote for the independent stereo system.
--- When using our ROKU device (on Input 5), please set TV back to “Input 4” when you depart.

=================================

ROKU Device (blue arrow) connected via HDMI cable (yellow arrows) to Input 5 on the back of the TV. The Roku device may look different and may be even smaller; it may have an HDMI plug on itself, thus not needing a separate HDMI cable; make sure it gets power (from a USB connector or connection to a 120-V outlet).

(1) Watching TV, using our DirecTV Programming:
--- Find "DirecTV" remote and press the POWER "ON" button (top right on remote).
--- If no live TV is coming up, “TV Input” may not be on Channel 5. Use “DirecTV” remote or black “TV” remote, find the “Input” button, and push sequentially until you are on INPUT 4. (Each advance may require a couple of attempts pushing that button and may take a couple of seconds for the system to respond). --- If still no DirecTV image, check if diffuse blue control light on receiver is lit. If not, press “on” button on remote again. Also, assure that cable connection between small DirecTV receiver unit and HDMI “Input 4” is correctly made.
--- To turn the system off, simply press the POWER "OFF" button on DirecTV remote (underneath the "ON" button).
--- The main DirecTV channels are numbered the same way as in the SF Bay Area (e.g., 5 is CBS, 7 is ABC, 9 is PBS, etc.); the 200s may include some of your favorite entertainment cable channels such as ESPN, TBS, etc. You may leave the DirecTV power on when you depart.
—- Do Not Purchase DirecTV Programming: Mind that we provide only BASIC DirecTV programming; e.g., we do not provide CNN, MSNBC, FOX NEWS, or any sports channels. We do not facilitate for guests to buy any not provided DirecTV programming. For your own special favorite channels use ROKU with your own programming.

(2) Using your own Programming via ROKU device:
--- Find "DirecTV" remote and press the POWER "ON" button (top right on remote).
--- Set TV to Input 5. (Details under (1) above). Set back to Input 4 before you depart, so next guests have live TV working.
— Use ROKU remote to select your provider and programming.
— If no obvious response, make sure that ROKU device is plugged into HDMI Input 5 (see photo for details).

(3) Watching HDMI from your Laptop:

Connect the HDMI cable from your laptop to INPUT 5 on the TV (simply unplug the ROKU device).  PLEASE MAKE SURE TO RECONNECT THE ROKU DEVICE AND SWITCH THE TV BACK TO INPUT 4 before you depart (there is nothing more frustrating for a new guest than not finding the TV "working" on arrival).

(4) Internet-TV:
Our high-speed Internet is ideal for for watching Internet-based TV.  Just bring your Apple-TV, or use our ROKU device for Netflix, or alike, for your own favorite programming. See ityem (3) above.

(5) Playing a DVD:
--- Use the "DVD"-remote; press the top right (green) button to turn on; press the top left button to open the tray; insert the DVD; press the same button to close the tray; then use the "TV" remote and select the appropriate "input" channel (#2) to connect the TV monitor to the DVD player.

(6) Problems:
In case you have trouble getting the TV to work, go "back to basics." Start with re-booting the system by unplugging the power cord to the power strip behind the TV and plugging it back into that same outlet after a minute. Then press by hand the TV power button on top of the TV, then find the "TV" remote and press the "input" button and select "Input 2 or 4" from the various input choices. If the DirecTV power is switched on (i.e. the blue-green control LED is on) and the DVD-player is switched off, you should then see some sort of life on the TV screen. Use the "DirecTV" remote to select the channel of your choice.
If still a problem, it may be that someone accidentally switched the cabling for Input #4 and #5.
Whatever the problem may be, it is likely NOT anywhere else with the cables in the back. DO NOT UNPLUG ANY CABLE AND PLUG IT BACK IN SOMEWHERE ELSE!!! (If this happened, this becomes a real inconvenience for the next guests, as our housekeepers are not trained to fix such problems, and finding an expert in Sea Ranch to hire, diagnose and correct your action is extremely difficulty, and the (non-trivial) handyman fee will be taken from your security deposit).

(7) Using the Stereo System:,
--- We have a 2017 Insignia audio system with two speakers and Bluetooth ability, so you can listen to music from your BT-enabled smartphone or laptop. It has a separate remote labeled "Stereo." The device name for Bluetooth pairing is with NS-SH513.
This stereo system is entirely separate from the TV/video system. It is not possible to receive TV sound through the Stereo speakers, or vice versa.
