Internet - Wifi
Free of charge to renters. Casa Pacis has a high-speed wireless Internet (nominal speeds 100/100 MBps up/down). Usage is unlimited and unrestricted. This service is EXCELLENT, in that the bandwidth remains high even in peak use hours. We have many guests who combine vacationing at Casa Pacis with basic work from their “home office,” enjoying Internet performance significantly superior to their actual place of work …
Modem and router and related equipment are in the loft, readily accessible to our guests. This permits the an EMF-sensitive guest to turn the router off and connect the laptop directly to it with an Ethernet cable. System name and password are given to the guest in the arrival documentation. If no connection, suggest to unplug the modem and router, wait 30 seconds, and plug them back in. Next suggestion is to re-boot your computer. If the problem persists, contact the owner.
The house telephone is Internet-based. This can come in handy when you suspect Internet problems: if you can hear the dial tone, the problem is likely not with the Internet system; if there is no dial tone, the Internet is likely the culprit.
The Internet and telephone systems are on an automatic battery back-up, which will bridge over brown-out periods (electricity interruptions) for up to about 1-hour duration. Beyond that, Guest may have to rely on cell phone service for emergency calling -- if still functional during such extreme brown-out situations. Check here for using a back-generator during long brown-outs.
If for some reason the (normally very reliable) Internet system is down at Casa Pacis, and you have an urgent situation that cannot wait, you have an alternative: The Sea Ranch Association provides free Wi-Fi service to Sea Ranch members and their guests and renters at both the Del Mar Center Hall and House, and at the Ohlson Ranch House. Please consult the posted information at the facilities to check/verify the current password.
